Lamento industriale (2017) was commissioned by the biennial open air festival Interim, which took place on the pastures and in the forrest near Grabenstetten, Germany between 16 September and 1 October 2017. There were sculptures, installations and several performances spread over the entire area. One of the location presented sculptures by Stefanie Zoche from Munich. Her sand casting sculptures displayed various augmented industrial objects. Four musicians were commissioned to create music inspired by these sculptures. I recorded sounds from miscellaneous industrial firms such as a metal construction firm, a brewery, a quarry,, a scrapyard etc and processed these materials in diverse ways. I was particularly fascinated by a sound based on a recording of scraping metal, which, having been processed, sounded to me like sometimes like an electric guitar, sometimes like a saxophone and sometimes like a lament.

Lamento industriale (2017) entstand als Auftragskomposition der Biennale inter!m, die zwischen dem 16. September und 1. Oktober 2017 auf einer großen Wiese und in dem angrenzenden Wald in der Nähe des Dorfes Grabenstetten auf der Schwäbischen Alb stattfand. An verschiedenen Stellen auf dem Festivalgelände wurden Skulpturen, Installationen und allerlei Aufführungen präsentiert. Die Münchener Künstlerin Stefanie Zoche zeigte Skulpturen, die auf vergrößerten Objekten aus der Industrie basieren. Vier Komponisten erhielten den Auftrag, jeweils ein Werk zu schaffen, das von diesen Skulpturen inspiriert wurde. Das akustische Ausgangsmaterial für meine Komposition nahm ich in verschiedenen Industriebetrieben auf: in einer Metallbau-Firma, einer Brauerei, einem Steinbruch, einem Schrottplatz usw. Bei der Arbeit an dem Stück faszinierte mich ganz besonders ein metallisches Kratzgeräusch, das - bearbeitet durch verschiedene Prozeduren wie zeitliches Strecken, Filtern usw. - bisweilen klang wie eine verzerrte elektrische Gitarre, dann wie ein Saxophon oder wie ein Klagegesang. Dieser Klang zieht sich als eine Schicht fast durch das ganze Stück hindurch.
